Carol Hepper

“Hepper’s sculptures have a command and unpredictability”
- The New York Times

Artist Carol Hepper utilizes materials and images from her immediate environment to create sculptures and photographic composites that reference the context of her surroundings. During her residency at the Armory, in response to the building’s varied states of renewal and restoration, Hepper is creating a new body of work that relates to the way we renovate and rethink our cities, our buildings and our bodies.

Hepper’s work is in numerous public and private collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art; the Guggenheim Museum; the Metropolitan Museum of Art;  the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the List Visual Arts Center at MIT, Cambridge; the Walker Art Center and the Margulies Foundation, Miami. She has received awards from The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts among others. Hepper is currently the subject of a mid-career survey, “Carol Hepper: Inside the Between” organized by the Yellowstone Art Museum, which is touring through 2012. She lives in New York City and Jeffersonville, NY.
