William Kentridge's The Head & the Load Opening Night Benefit

Please join us on Tuesday, December 4 at Park Avenue Armory for an Opening Night Benefit celebrating The Head & the Load, with William Kentridge and his artistic collaborators.

“Today’s art world is powerfully drawn to Kentridge because he’s mastered one of our period’s greatest challenges: how to create an art of cultural authority, one that takes the moral measure of our time.”
New York Magazine

A play on the Ghanaian proverb, “the head and the load are the troubles of the neck,” the large-scale work expressively speaks to the nearly two million African porters and carriers used by the British, French, and Germans who bore the brunt of the casualties during the First World War in Africa and the historical significance of this story as yet left largely untold.

The Opening Night Benefit will include the North American premiere performance. Directly following the performance will be an exclusive dinner and champagne toast. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend an intimate evening with the artist who is “equally celebrated as a director and composer” (The New York Times).
