This world premiere commission by Park Avenue Armory features a score by Grammy Award winning jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, a visual design by “Gonzo” artist Ralph Steadman and the conceptual energy of legendary music producer Hal Willner. The core of the work is centered on Allen Ginsberg’s Kaddish. An epic lament to Ginsberg’s mother and a reflection on his own estrangement from Judaism, the work is the cornerstone for the Beat Generation and has been the inspiration to many artists past and present. This musical and visual journey into Kaddish is produced by another Grammy Award winner, Hall Willner, whose off-kilter genius for creating multi-artist concept albums and live shows over the last 30 years has made him among the most original voices in music of his generation. Philip Glass’ affinity, reverence and collaborations with the great Allen Ginsberg make for a deeply personal achievement for this work scored and performed for the Tune-In Music Festival.
