Manager of Special Events

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

MANAGER OF SPECIAL EVENTS
The Special Events Manager plays a key role on the Park Avenue Armory’s Special Events Department team which oversees approximately 70+ cultivation, stewardship, opening night, and private rental events for corporate and individual donors.  The department’s primary fundraising events include the annual Armory Gala, Opening Night, and Snowflake Lounge. This position reports directly to the Director of Special Events.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:
• Event management tasks including logistical planning and implementation, budget management, client contract negotiations, vendor negotiations and onsite event supervision.
• Execute contracts appropriately and provide quality service and care for private rentals
• Ensure event budgets are met and maintained. 
• Assist the Director of Special Events with the planning and execution of aspects of the department’s annual benefits.
• Work as part of the Special Events team to staff Armory events each season
• Perform database work in Tessitura and take part in training.
• Administrative duties such as: ordering office supplies, scheduling meetings, maintaining the events calendar and keeping track of expenses.
• Work with other departments to streamline processes.
• Serve as department representative at organization wide operation meetings.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as a team, demonstrate superior organizational skills and know how to prioritize and multi-task. Strong written and communication skills are required.

Additional requirements include:

• Capable of working late nights and weekends
• 3-5 years’ experience in special events
• Proficiency in Tessitura or similar database
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
• Ability to move or transport small boxes and supplies
