Associate Director of Major Gifts

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

The Armory is seeking a major gifts and fundraising professional to join a small but entrepreneurial team tasked with growing the fundraising income to support the Armory’s programs. The Associate Director of Major Gifts will report to the Deputy Director of Development and work closely with the Chief Development Officer and the President to steward and grow major gifts fundraising.  This role is responsible for the day to day management of the Armory’s major gifts activities, which raises approximately $1.2 Million annually and consists of individual major donors and a major donor membership group, the Artistic Council. This role will also be tasked with supporting a future capital campaign to continue refurbishment of the Armory’s historic rooms.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with the Deputy Director of Development, Chief Development Officer and President to steward the existing Major Gifts donors and to cultivate a pool of prospects, including:
– Research major donor prospects
– Develop ideas for new solicitations and sponsorship opportunities
– Draft funding proposals and reports
– Develop and monitor plans for each major gift donor relationship to ensure a successful moves management process is accomplished
– Track activities with donors in Tessitura (CRM)
• Act as front-line fundraiser a with portfolio of donors
• Oversee the Artistic Council, a special invitation-only major gifts group that provides essential production support. Manage solicitations, renewals, and development of events for this unique group
– Concierge ticketing service, anything-they-need relationship manager
– Manage benefits
– Develop calendar of events
– Send out renewals, coordinated with Co-Chairs
– Manage solicitations for upgrades and new donors
• Oversee select admin work for Artistic Council and other Major Donors, including:
– Coordinating invitation lists and mailings
– Taking RSVPs
– Tracking attendance
– Event bios
• Manage major gifts discussions with President, Chief Development Officer and Deputy Director of Development to make sure all stewardship/cultivation priorities are on track
• Support President in outgoing communication to Major Donors
• Act as member of the wider Development team which requires ongoing activities like working events, staffing patron table during performances, and other duties as needed

This position requires evening and weekend work in connection with events and productions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and three to five years’ experience in major gifts and fundraising, preferably for a cultural organization. Event experience and work with Tessitura are both pluses. 
Candidates will be self-starters with an entrepreneurial spirit and well-honed skills in developing cultivation strategies, written materials, and in managing relationships with high-level donors. Successful candidates will take the initiative during independently managed projects, exercise strong strategic planning and analysis skills, operate well in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate excellent teamwork and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Polished written and interpersonal communications skills are critical.
